How Forecasting Works

Gantry predicts future cash flow using several methods:

For Receivables

  1. Historical patterns — When does this customer typically pay?
  2. Invoice terms — What payment terms apply?
  3. Recent behavior — Any change in payment timing?
  4. Weighted average — Combines methods based on reliability

For Payables

  1. Scheduled payments — Bills you've already scheduled
  2. Vendor patterns — Your typical payment timing with each vendor
  3. Terms optimization — Suggests optimal payment dates

Accuracy Improvement

Forecasts become more accurate over time as Gantry learns your patterns. New customers/vendors use industry defaults until enough history accumulates.

Using the Dashboard

  2. Adjust payment priorities based on runway
  3. Identify customers consistently paying late
  4. Review vendor payment terms for optimization

Configuration Options

Access via Settings → Liquidity:

Bank Accounts

Select which accounts to include in cash analysis. Exclude accounts used for restricted purposes.

Payment Forecasting

Setting Purpose
Volatility Threshold When to flag uncertain forecasts (default: 15% variance)
Overdue Push Days How far to push overdue AR in forecasts (default: 30 days)
History Lookback How much history to analyze (default: 12 months)
Default Days-to-Pay Assumption for new customers (default: 30 days)

  • Enables weekly payment caps

Activate via toggle in Settings when cash is tight.

  • Deferrable (can be pushed if needed)

Best Practices

Monitor Daily

Cash position can change quickly. Make the Liquidity dashboard part of your daily routine.

Set Realistic Targets

Configure thresholds based on your industry and business cycle. What's critical for one business may be normal for another.

Act on Aging

Receivables aging is an early warning system. Follow up on 30+ day items before they become 90+ day problems.

Optimize Timing

Don't pay early if you don't need to. Use Gantry's insights to optimize payment timing while maintaining vendor relationships.

Review Forecast Accuracy

Periodically compare forecasts to actuals. If consistently off, adjust your configuration settings.

Common Questions

Why doesn't my cash match my bank statement?

Gantry may include pending transactions or exclude certain account types. Check your bank account configuration in Settings.

Why is a customer showing as "Current" when they're late?

The aging is based on invoice due dates. Check if the invoice has the correct terms applied.

Can I forecast beyond 6 weeks?

Yes, but accuracy decreases over time. Short-term forecasts are most reliable.

How do I handle expected one-time receipts?

Large expected payments (loans, investments, etc.) aren't automatically predicted. Factor these into your planning manually.
